Cerita Kurang Sa - Cart for Connection
Heritage Storytelling & Exhibitions
Cerita Kurang Sa - Cart for Connection is a storytelling project from Kuala Kangsar, Malaysia, shaped as a playful placemaking experiment. It documents the lives of nine artisans, makers and traders. From tengkolok makers and tekat embroiderers to barbers, shopkeepers, and flour millers. Through conversations and photographs, the project highlights how memory, craft, and knowledge flow across generations.

The name Cerita Kurang Sa comes from a local story about how Kuala Kangsar got its name: “kurang satu” (one less), referring to the 99 valleys feeding into the river. In the spirit of this origin, the project features nine stories, each a living valley of memory and tradition.

Cerita Kurang Sa is supported by the Kuala Grants Programme by Think City, and developed in collaboration with Antoine Loncle. The project will culminate in a pop-up exhibition in Kuala Kangsar, with a bamboo cart as a moving way to carry these stories through town.
